His Disciples

My brain is in information overload! I learned so much from this passed weekend but I still have so much I want to process but the bottom line is that we can't do this job as a parent without JESUS! God showed up all around me... every question, doubt, or fear I had that cross my mind within hours he answered. Not knowing a friend from the same agency was there this weekend, what a great surprise! Wish I could have spent more time with her. She wrote on her blog so beautifully about this weekend's retreat... just had to share it with you. Hopefully I will be able to post a lot more about this weekend later but something has been heavy on my heart all day I've been wanting to share.

Our small group over a year ago read the book Radical by David Platt (if you haven't read it you should) it's a book that stirred our group to want to get uncomfortable to not just sit on a church pew every week.
It challenged us all to look outside the box of the normal Christian walk to stop the talk and put the talk into action.
He showed us what Jesus really said about being a disciple

Matthew 28:18-20

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

After awhile of trying to figure what that would look like for our group, we prayed and we're finally heading in the right direction. We reached out to HopeChest, an organization where some of us already sponsored children in Ethiopia.

They were starting to help an orphanage in Flond Blanc, Haiti about 30 minutes from Port-Au-Prince... which seemed like a perfect match for our group, especially because it's easy to travel too. Just look at how beautiful it is in the  picture above, just breathtaking scenic views
It took a lot of patience but finally our first team of 3 from our small group just returned from seeing the orphanage (a picture of them above). They came back so moved and pumped us up on this wonderful opportunity to serve the children in Haiti!  After returning home, the profiles were sent to us with 41 children needing sponsors.
Even though there are over 300 children it's just the beginning of what is in store for these children in Haiti. There are 7 couples in our group and we are all in charge of finding 6 children great sponsor families. These children need us to make a difference to step up and provide for them. Their sad faces need our love of sending them letters of support or small packages and a monthly donation of $34 a month. This opportunity is priceless as it's possible for you to even meet your sponsored child as they will be making many mission trips down to see and serve them. This is such a great start to a wonderful chance to follow God's call to serve the needy and poor. The need is so great and we can't do it without you and your help. I ask of you to step up, jump in and join us on this journey of making an impact on the children of Haiti. They need us and they need YOU!

Here is our child we are sponsoring...
 Judeline
She just turned 5 and is in first grade
Can't wait to hopefully meet her one day!

Make a difference today!
