This Friday

My friends are about to embark on a trip to Ethiopia this Friday!
Jessica is going to her court date and the other Devin unfortunately didn't get the cut off from rainy season so she is going to have to wait for her court date but in the meantime she is going to go with Jessica to meet their sons together for the first time! Isn't it wonderful how God intertwines relationships!
I'm so excited for these two to have each other to share this experience with! While they are over there visiting their baby boys they are going to take a trip to Trees of Glory!
That's where my precious sponsored Child ... Tigist is!
It's going to be great to get some updated pictures and see how she's grown.
Isn't she beautiful!
On their trip over there they plan to buy some school supplies.
They could use your help!
Click over to Jessica's blog and go to the left hand side and donate
They are only wanting to raise $300 but hopefully the will reach more to give more!
Even if it's just a few dollars it will make a difference.

Here's a inspirational video of the children at Hopechest

I can't wait to see what God has in store for these friends and hear all about their trip and experiences!
It's fun living through others adventures until one day I can go!

Surprise

My sweet hubby surprised me with an early birthday gift!
The Dave Mathews Concert
I was at my dentist appointment with the twins getting all our teeth cleaned together. After I was checking out  scheduling our next appointments when I hear a knock at the front door. It's Jonas and he comes up to me and says Happy Birthday Mommy! I said what? He said Happy birthday Mommy these are for you and handed me two tickets for the concert... I thought it was a joke? What? Then I look and see Scott that was supposed to be at work, walk up! I started shaking and I said awe no way!! He said yep were leaving in an hour and driving with some friends to the concert. I was shocked, so excited and totally surprised!! After figuring out some details of things I had lined up for the day and an amazing mother in law coming to swoop up the kids. I headed home to get ready where Brooke lead me to my room with a few gifts of a dress Scott picked out, some earrings & bracelet from my sister in law, and new clutch bag from mother in law. It was all laid out for me ready to wear!!  I was so excited, I mean it's one thing to get concert tickets but so much sweeter that I didn't have to wonder what I was going to wear!
It was a night of laughs and feeling like a youngin ...like college kid young:) It was in the top birthdays ever.
I couldn't tell you the last time I have been to a concert!
It was a sweet surprise and yes my hubby gets the BEST husband award... how did I get to be so lucky?!
So, tomorrow is the big day, I'll hit the half way to 70 mark!
It was a good thing I can at least remember what it's like to be young again!

A trip they won't forget

My travelers are back from Chicago!
Mimi and Pops take every grandchild on a big trip when they turn 5.
They picked Chicago for  Brooke and Parker. They went together... another bonus of being a twin. It was so sad the first day they were gone Jonas asked all day ... "when they coming back mommy?"
For 6 days they toured as much as they could. They enjoyed the Chicago Zoo, a few museums, a splash park, getting Brooke's first American Girl Doll, Parker a cool Lego set, went to a Chicago Cubs baseball game, went to Navy Pier, saw fireworks, ate Chicago pizza, rode lots of different types of transportation and lots more... they were busy! It was a great trip, I know one they will never forget!
My big kids!

It was hard for us... them being away, our house was quiet.. Jonas was lonely. I know after this week away from his brother and sister he is meant for siblings and loves them so much. Their bond is pretty special all four of these kids are so close! I also realize how helpful my twins are and just how good they are! I appreciate them more after a week of them gone.
It was a great trip one they will cherish forever ... priceless memories made for a lifetime with their Grandparents. Can't wait to keep the tradition alive with my many Grandkids someday:)

Thanks Mimi and Pops for everything!

Guest Post- Allee

I’m trying the guest post thing. My little sister is in Kaabong, Africa all summer and I have finally convinced her to share a glimpse of what the Lord has been doing in her life over there. Hope you enjoy--

Well hello there, or Ecconai :)

Heidi the old fart, who has asked me to blog many times... has finally convinced me.

So here I am having no clue on where to even begin. First things first, my name is Allee, and I will be a senior at Florida Southern College this fall. The last 5 weeks, I have had the absolute honor to be serving and ministering to the Karamajong in the Nilotic valley of the northern most point in Uganda, right on the border of South Sudan.

I moved up here for the summer with 3 other college-aged students (Tanner, Andrew, and Katie) to work alongside the Echelon team, which is now a team of 2 Jesus-lovin, obedient-living, families who have devoted their lives to Christ and submission to the Great Commission and bringing the gospel to the unreached people groups of the world. You should totes follow them via twitter @echelonafrica

To be quite honest, the last 5 weeks have been some of the most challenging weeks I have ever experienced. But I wouldn’t change anything for this opportunity to live in true obedience this summer. The Karamajong aren’t the funnest of all people. Though they are beautiful and the Lord has given me a heart for them, it has been hard. If you have read Kisses from Katie, you know that she describes them as being known as primitive, selfish, aggressive, and according to the state departments of the world dangerous. Throughout Uganda, Karamajong are marginalized, despised, and feared-- simply because people do not understand them. On top of that the poverty is horrendous. It seems that most are starving or in need of medical care.

Our plan was to just help serve alongside of the team, have some missionary training classes, and be obedient to whatever Jesus had planned for our trip here. We had no idea what that would entail. 2 weeks into the trip, my teammates stumbled across a woman (pictured to the right) who was trying to hang herself, over a corrupt land dispute that she thought would lead her starving. 3 days later, a man who we had spent almost every day with, who worked at the house with us, died out of no where. The next day my team was burying his body with a shovel, mosquito net, and some rocks, having never imagined they would be burying a man who had become a friend this summer.

In the midst of the chaos and emotional wreckage of it all, we continued to trust Jesus in His timing and His will and our prayer was that through the pain of what we and the Karamajong were experiencing, He would be glorified and His glory would be revealed to a tribe that is so hardened to the gospel, and a people group who sometimes claims to believe in Jesus, but also calls upon witch doctors when we try and save a woman who is at her lowest of lows. A people group who sometimes claims to be Christian but at the same time have multiple wives and almost everyone in this region drinks there way to sleep, every. single. night.

When this week of chaos and pain had approached, it just happened to be the same week that the Echelon team had planned for quite sometime now through prayer and submission, that they were going to show the Jesus film (similar to the Passion of the Christ) in some of the villages nearby for 5 nights in a row. Being completely honest, I was a little hesitant to this idea because I thought it was a cheesy, cheap way of sharing the gospel. But the Lord convicted me of this judgement and I slowly began to see that He was sovereign, and this was His plan, not mine. And I just needed to trust Him.

After the first night of showing the film, 2 men, who are employed by the team to work at the Echelon base camp everyday doing various things, came up to one of our leaders saying that they finally understood who Jesus was and that they genuinely wanted to live like Him and follow a life after Him. We were in shock. The echelon team has lived in this region for 6 months, and not once have seen interest in who Jesus was, yet people wanting to be baptized and turn away from their past lives. After some long conversations, discipling classes, and even new Karamjaong believers witnessing and telling their testimonies in near-by villages, within one week, over 15 people were baptized, and trusting Jesus and desiring to be like Him and glorify Him with their lives. Even in a cold-hearted region full of depravity and hopelessness. Jesus was there. He was moving in bigger ways then we would ever fathom, and there we were, in awe. “WHAT?! Where did this come from Lord?!”

It’s funny cause as soon as we were able to get Wifi this week, I hopped online to catch up on Hides blog, because I had missed her and the kids so much. And I stumbled across her recent posts read HERE and then HERE on what the Lord has been teaching her and how the Spirit had been using her in her town. And I laughed to myself. Because Jesus was like this is it Allee. I’ve been taught this concept over and over, but I think I’m finally understanding the weight of what obedience truly looks like. THERE IS NO GREATER CALL IN A SO-CALLED MISSIONARYS LIFE. Ill scream it. The church has glorified it and made it into this big deal. And its not. No one is called to be “missionaries”. Those of us who have given our lives to Christ, and have submitted everything to Him, are called to OBEDIENCE. That is our calling. O-B-E-D-I-E-N-C-E. And whether that obedience is played out in a remote village working with selfish people who are extremely hard to love, or if it plays out in your own neighborhood. Our calling is to the gospel, and literally allowing Jesus to work through us in EVERYTHING. We should surrender our lives to loving Jesus, allowing Him to fill us up, and then pouring it out on any person we come in contact with or the Lord places on our heart. If we are in Christ, He is engineering our circumstances... and too often we take that too lightly. Heidi chose to listen to the Spirit that day outside the Library, and look what the Lord did through her obedience. These "circumstances" shouldn't happen on rare occasion. They should be normal if we are allowing the gospel to truly change us, and we are truly living in fear of the Lord and feeling the weight of our call to obedience in Christ.

So simple, yet, I am so convicted by it. Lord allow me to fully live in submission to Your Spirit so that I will always act in obedience every day. And those moments where I fail, May I be reminded by your holiness and perfection, and that your Strength is made perfect in my weakness.

Our goal should be God Himself, not joy, nor happiness, nor peace, not even blessing, but Himself. In that will come true obedience.

P.S. for those of you that I do know, I can’t even begin to express how thankful my team and I have been for your prayers and support. It has literally overwhelmed us. People I have never even met. I have shed tears of Joy thinking about what a blessing it is to have such an amazing community of believers at home (and at SWO) who are dedicated to getting the gospel to the ends of the earth and truly living in submission to that. SO thank you.

Better in Two's

Two different times, I took two different kids to Sea World.
One of the perks of having season passes and living in sunny Florida.
The first trip was the twins where Parker mapped out our entire day of when and
what shows we will watch. Brooke and I just went along... he is a huge map guy actually he still has the map in his room for his next trip. He was for sure NOT going to see Shamu for some reason the kid have never loved the show but he really enjoys the dolphin show.
A hit for Brooke was the Pets ahoy dog/cat show.... she is a huge cat lover.
This is us at the dolphin Show
Next trip was today with the Little's... Jonas and Kate.
Jonas again another map guy and knew exactly where he wanted to go first... the Shamu show!
He was so excited! There has been many ads on TV about Shamu and every time he says " I want to see him mommy" his dream came true as he was awe struck the entire time.
He almost threw a fit because he wanted to sit in the front row!
Kate too was frozen on my lap pointing (for the first time) at every whale that jumped in the air.
Even though the boys are both map lovers they have completely different places they wanted to go.
Funny too that both were the leaders in the decision making...we'll see if this is something that stays true.
Each day was completely different but both will be one I will cherish the same!

Celebrating America's Birthday

Did you know it was the 236th birthday of America?
One thing I love about Americans we know how to celebrate.
It could be one of my favorite holidays warm weather, watermelon, fire works, picnics, no school, summer time, and just the over all laid back feeling. It's not a stressful holiday it's a day of relaxing.
Well, that is actually what we did and this fourth of July was a fun one!
Most the locals around here head to the beach for the fourth but we had never done it before.
We usually stay close to home and watch the fireworks from there.
Our fun friends invited us over to stay with them and enjoy in their annual beach vacation.
With all the loud noises and late nights be decided to keep Kate at home with the grandparents.

We had some good QT with the PB&J trio

 Fourth of July Night
I do think this picture could be from a Gap magazine just so many cuties in their festive outfits.
There was lots of friends to enjoy and new faces to meet.
These girls are from Brooke's dance class which after a few days hangin
Brooke is ready for dance and gymnastics in the fall
Double trouble or really is it?
Who do you really think the trouble is...
"What mom? don't get sand all over me?"
"Oops... too much fun not to tackle my buddy and make him belly laugh!"
Even all sandy these boys are just too cute!
I love this picture! Could be one of my favorites.
Makes a momma's heart melt to see them so happy together and making memories.
These two are just so special celebrating their 1st generation as Ethiopian Americans.
Even the moms got a picture together ... miracle.
The rest of the night was with yummy barbecue, birthday cake, an amazing firework display,
some scared kids,  the whole beach filled with fireworks, little bugs that bite,  late night kids dance party,
and a late night game of name that tune.
It was a FUN time, one that we didn't want to end.
Thanks friends for having us and including us in your festivities!

A Full Day of Fun

 Kate Turned ONE!
Last Sunday, we had a great day celebrating our littlest!
Brooke woke up at the crack of dawn ran into our room ready to start the family traditions.
Then Parker and Jonas jumped into our bed, they couldn't wait... excited for Kate's big day! We quickly grabbed the video camera and all walked into the room singing Happy Birthday to our little Kate. She didn't know what was going on standing in her bed with her big blue eyes thinking what in the world.
We all quickly got dressed and headed to breakfast. Kate had her first chocolate chip pancakes.
Funny comment from Parker ... after we ordered our food I said "Kate is going to be in Heaven" talking about how much she's going to love them. Parker said with his sad voice "She going to Heaven?"
Oh how gullible he can be...reminds me of someone:)
She was in Heaven and enjoyed every bite!
YUM pancakes!
Mama and the birthday girl ... yes still loves to blow bubbles
It's funny we saw the same waitress there for our 8th different birthday breakfast celebration there.
She has watched our kids grow up and remembers the twins first.
Our next event was at the community pool
Another tradition, our fourth time celebrating at the pool.
I do think Kate looks like Brooke in this picture.
Her Sweet Gigi at 92 years strong! She's just amazing
can you tell where she got her blue eyes from?
That smirk is up to something ...
oh ya blowing water and making noises with her Gigi
After a few hours of swimming, Kate didn't want to get out of the water.
She loves going up and down the stairs... made it to the third one
She has no fear loving to go under in the water. I see swim lessons very soon
Her and Pops enjoy a boat ride around the pool.
We tried to stick to having only a few friends
Kate had twin brothers come play
Next up was cupcake time...
She was ready to dive in
 Her first touch

MMMM she says and shoves it all in...
she cleared the tray leaving only crumbs and an icing smeared face
she had some help from her brothers and sister.
Another Tradition we have is the kids pick out one gift.
This year they took such pride in their gift and couldn't wait for Kate to open them.
They were a perfect symbol of what they all like.. Jonas was a bubble machine which he loves
Brooke's was a leap frog little puppy that sings she can sleep with.
Parker got her a farm track, he was so cute he opened the box and read the instructions and set it up and showed her exactly how to do it and she listened to every word very careful.
She caught on quickly as was able to do it, he was so proud. He said "I knew I got her the perfect gift"
Later that evening the night continued with a firework fourth of July celebration in the neighborhood.
I think one of the perks of having your birthday near the fourth.
The kids prepare their ears for the loud booms
Parker is very excited!
Kate barely made it... cuddled in my arms with heavy eyes
enjoying every big firework in the sky not even scared. I told her they were for her.
Oh how my sweet baby is getting big slowly turning into an independent toddler.
I'm going to miss this past year of babyhood ...just trying to brace myself for what's ahead of getting into everything phase. Any chance I get I'm going to hang on to the snuggles and wide mouth kisses.
It was a full day of celebrating this precious child!
We love you so much Kate Allee
You are the perfect caboose to this family!
